I liked this installment to the Breed series but maybe not as much as I was hoping for. I have been looking forward to Hunter's book for a while because he is such a complex character. Hunter was Dragos' first Gen One creation from the Ancient and the only one to have left Dragos' service alive.
Corinne was one of the Breedmates rescued in the last book. She was being used as a breeder by Dragos. From the timeline it seems she had been held there for almost 60 years- if I have that right. Hunter is set to escort Corinne back to her home to see her family again.
The one thing that drives Corinne is finding the son that she had while in the breeding program. She feels no issue with using Hunter in any way to do that. I understand a mother's protectiveness to their child but Hunter deserved better. Corinne basically guilted him into feeding from her so he could read her memories. That started the bond between them and pretty much sealed the deal.
I wanted Hunter to have an epic romance. A whole new level of happiness but I think he kind of settled for the first person that came along. Corinne, while strong in the fact that she survived the captivity, was weak and whiny. She cried a lot. She came across as a user. I wanted Hunter to be with a fighter, like himself.
The rest of the story was good. Chase is going to be awesome. I sure hope his HEA is with Ms. Fairchild. And come on now, it is about time we just get rid of Dragos! I got a bit sad when I read the preview chapter for Chase's book.
